About the Event

Workshop: Learning, Naturally: Putting Theories of Outdoor Learning into Practice

It is the work of an educator to facilitate meaningful learning experiences, thereby enabling others to grow in their understanding of themselves and the world around them. It is also the case that humans have been “learning” for thousands of years without “schools” or other structured educational institutions. That’s because learning is a natural human behaviour - it’s how we adapt and survive on this earth! There are many theories that identify learning as a natural “cycle” in which connections can be made more deeply if learners are enabled to flow through the cycle. In this workshop participants will be introduced to several theories connected with natural learning experiences in the outdoors, and will be invited to map these onto a forest school approach to consider more deeply how curiosity, play, relationships, and reflection can support the learning process.
